Air Travel - Self-Connect.  Some perspective

The AI spew on self-connect describes it this way - In travel, a self-connect (or self-transfer) means you've booked two or more separate flights on different tickets to complete a journey, making you fully responsible for transferring between them. Unlike a traditional connecting flight, where the airline handles baggage and responsibilities for delays, a self-transfer requires you to collect your luggage, re-check it, and potentially go through security or immigration. This booking strategy offers more flexibility and can be cheaper but carries the significant risk of losing your next flight and having to purchase a new ticket if your first flight is delayed.
